Abstract: Medicinal plants as a therapeutic drug has obstacles to getting to the target of action due to the low solubility and bioavailability of active substances in the air. Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) is a method developed to increase the solubility and bioavailability of active substances including extracts from plants. This literature study aims to examine the SNEDDS formula that utilizes medicinal plants by reviewing information gathered from the relevant original articles. Reference searches were conducted on websites such as Google Scholar, Pub-Med and ScienceDirect. Several medicinal plants were formulated into SNEDDS preparations, namely soursop, grapefruit, beets, turmeric, propolis, bay leaves, ant nests, papaya leaves, parijoto fruit, gotu kola, temulawak, kelor, ketepeng and mangosteen which produced good characteristics. The SNEDDS preparations from these herbal plants have transmittance values ranging from 72.74% to 100%, the emulsification time of the preparations is less than 5 minutes, and the zeta potential is -0.2 mV to -56 mV. The polydispersity index value is less than 0.4 and the particle size is less than 100 nm. SNEDDS has the ability to improve the bioavailability and solubility of compounds resulting in better pharmacological activity compared to extracts or fractions. The SNEDDS formulation can increase the activity of compounds in medicinal plants, this is indicated by an increase in drug bioavailability so that SNEDDS can be an alternative to increase the efficiency of healing a disease.
