Abstract: | Abstract Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis (HD) have a low quality of life (QoL). This can be influenced by the effectiveness of HD. Dialysis adequacy suggested by the Indonesian Ministry of Health for HD patients with twice-weekly HD is ≥ 1.8. Nevertheless in Indonesia, the majority of patients undergo HD with dialysis adequacy < 1.8. Objective: This study aims to determine relationship between effectiveness of HD on Qol of CKD patients undergoing HD. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional with convenience sampling technique. The study was conducted at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital and UGM Academic Hospital between January and March 2020. Primary data were Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form-36 questionnaire (KDQoL-SF36). Secondary data were medical records to collect the dialysis efficacy parameters including dialysis session, dialysis adequacy (Kt/V), and blood flow rate (Qb). Hemodialysis efficacy influencing QoL scores was analyzed using independent sample t-tests and one-way ANOVA. Multiple linear regression was performed to determine the main predictors of QoL. Results: Obtained 109 patients with an average QoL score was 72.10 ± 11.58. Increasing dialysis sessions, dialysis adequacy, and blood flow rates were significantly associated with increased QoL scores (p < 0.05). Results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that income (p = 0.019), comorbidity (p = 0.054), dialysis adequacy (p = 0.029), and blood flow rate (p = 0.006) were main predictors of QoL. Conclusion: QoL score of CKD patients on HD is significantly influenced by dialysis session, dialysis adequacy, and blood flow rate.
