Abstract: | Cherry plant, host of Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq has been shown to reduce uric acid because it contains secondary metabolites, especially flavonoids, a compound with a xanthine-like structure that competitively inhibits xanthine oxidase. Given that hemiparasites have the same content as the host, this study tested the ability of cherry parasite leaves to inhibit xanthine oxidase. Extraction was carried out with ethyl acetate and followed by fractionation into five ratios of ethanol and ethyl acetate solvent, namely F1 = 9:1, F2 = 7:3, F3 = 5:5, F4 = 3:7, and F5 = 1:9. The results of the fractionation (F1 – F5) and extracts in phytochemical tests identified terpenoids, tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids. In the xanthine oxidase inhibition test, fraction and extract of cherry parasite leaves were diluted into five concentrations (75; 150; 300; 600; and 1200 mg/L). The positive control of this study is allopurinol, the drug of choice for hyperuricemia. The absorbance value was used to find the percentage of enzyme inhibition, which was then analyzed by linear regression for IC50 . The IC50 values of F1 – F5 and ethyl acetate extract of cherry parasite leaves are very active and respectively 1.38 mg/L; 1.14 mg/L; 6.19 mg/L; 9.41 mg/L; 5.90 mg/L and 9.86 mg/L. |
