Abstract: Candesartan cilexetil (CC) is a very effective antihypertensive agent with poor solubility, so its bioavailability is limited. This study aims to increase the dissolved CC by preparing solid dispersions with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). Using the solvent co-evaporation method, the CC-HPMC solid dispersion was made into three formulas: 2:1; 1:1 and 1:2 (w/w). Intact CC, a physical mixture and solid dispersion formed were then characterized, and the dissolution rate was investigated. PXRD results show a decrease in peak intensity. Thermal analysis with DSC showed lower melting points. The morphology of solid dispersions describes a different shape compared to intact CC and physical mixtures. The infrared spectrum showed a slight shift in the functional group wave number, but no new functional groups were formed. The dissolution of solid dispersions increased significantly; the dissolution test results after 60 minutes for intact CC, physical mixture, solid dispersions F1, F2, and F3 were 32.46 ± 0.26; 67.76 ± 0.07; 61.22 ± 0.20; 71.74 ± 0.20; and 78.58 ± 0.20 (µg/ml). In conclusion, the CC-HPMC solid dispersion system can modify the physicochemical properties and increase the dissolution to 2.42 times that of a intact CC. In addition, increasing the concentration of HPMC increased the dissolved CC
