Petai (Parkia speciosa Hassk.) is a species that has long been cultivated in Indonesia. Petai seeds are used by the community for consumption as fresh vegetables, while petai fruits are considered waste. P. speciosa pods contain phenolic compounds with various pharmacological activities, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of P. speciosa pod ethanol extract as an antiulcer agent in animals induced by acute peptic ulcer with absolute ethanol. The antiulcer effect of the extract [doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBW] was evaluated through ulcer index, physicochemical properties of gastric juice and histopathological analysis. The results showed that P. speciosa pod extract was able to reduce ulcer index, gastric fluid volume, total acidity and increase pH which was not significantly different from omeprazole (p>0.05). Photomicrograph analysis showed improvement in the structure of the mucous membranes in the extract-treated animals. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that P. speciosa extract has potential as an antiulcer agent.en_US
