Abstract: Phlebitis is an infection that often occurs during treatment and can cause further complications such as septicemia, thus extending the hospital stay. This condition can be affected by nurse’s knowledge of intravenous drug injection administration. The purpose of this study was determine the knowledge of nurses regarding the risk factors for intravenous preparations related to the incidence of phlebitis. This research used a cross-sectional design. The research subjects were nurses at a government hospital in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. 159 nurses were involved in the research conducted from September to October 2020. The nurse’s knowledge of the risk factors for intravenous preparations related to the incidence of phlebitis was assessed using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of respondent characteristics, nurse’s knowledge of risk factors for intravenous preparations related to the incidence of phlebitis, and statements of nurse’s actions regarding the care and maintenance of peripheral intravenous cannula. The questionnaire had been tested for validity with valid results. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the research indicated that 83,08% of respondents had good knowledge of the risk factors for intravenous preparations, and 86,30% of respondents answered the statement correctly regarding the treatment and maintenance of peripheral intravenous cannulas. It is very urgent to provide training for injecting drugs and aseptic techniques because there were 10,69% of respondents who had not received such training. Moreover, it is necessary to hold refresher workshop to maximize services in the hospital.
