dc.description.abstractThe use of natural ingredients as skin whitening has the advantage of being safer even though the absorption into the skin is relatively low. Therefore, the development of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in natural materials can solve this problem. This review aims to collect data related to the development of natural materials with gold nanoparticles as a whitening agent. Identification is done by searching literature through pubmed media, Science Direct, and Google Scholar using the keywords "gold nanoparticle", "natural ingredients", "cosmetics", "tyrosinase inhibition", "melanin" and "whitening". The search was based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria that had been set. The results of the literature evaluation show that the development of natural ingredients as skin whitening agents has been developed, but due to the nature of the active compounds it is difficult to absorb, causing less than optimal results in inhibiting tyrosinase activity. So that a modification is made in the form of gold nanoparticles to facilitate the absorption process. The results of testing the tyrosinase activity of natural ingredients in the form of gold nanoparticles are better when compared to natural materials in the form of extracts. This is indicated by the smaller IC50 value when compared to natural ingredients in the form of extractsen_US
