Natural dyes are non-toxic and renewable. The ingredient is selected based on their availability in nature and accessibility, such as turmeric. This study aims to determine the the possibility of using turmeric as a natural dye and to determine the quality of the dyeing results. The independent variables include mordant alum, quicklime and tunjung. Dependent variables include color darkness, color fastness to washing and color fastness to rubbing. The control variables included cold extraction using a concentration of 100 grams/liter. The thread used is 80/2 cotton thread. The mordanting process consisted of 30 minutes of pre-mordanting with a concentration of 50 grams /liter, and 5 times dyeing in 30 minutes period. Data was collected by using laboratory tests. Data was analyzed descriptively based on laboratory test results. The descriptive analysis result showed that the darkest color was found on tunjung with a mean of R% 0.87. The result of the color fastness test on washing showed that lime and tunjung produced a score of 4 and were better than the test using alum. The color fastness test against white cloth staining shows “bad” result with a score of 2. The color fastness test against dry rubbing shows a score of 3.5 which belongs to “quite good” criteria. The color fastness test against wet rubbing, on alum and quicklime showed a score of 3, which was better than tunjung with a score of 2.5.
