Abstract: Pesticides are substances that kill or control pests. The use of pesticides can endanger the lives of humans and animals. Farmers are workers who are often exposed to pesticides so they are vulnerable to the dangers of spray pesticides. Personal protective equipment (safety equipment that must be used by personnel when in a dangerous workplace. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between knowledge and actions of using personal protective equipment with health complaints in farmers using pesticides in Pulau Rao Village in 2019. This type of research is analytic with cross sectional approach and carried out in April-August 2019 in Pulau Island Village District of Rao.The population used was all 102 farmers with a sample of 81. Data collection through interviews using a questionnaire about the level of knowledge, personal protective equipment and health complaints were then processed using the chi-square test and uji exact Fisher's test with p-value = 0.005 with a significance of 95% The results obtained showed a relationship between knowledge of p-value = 0.001, actions for using personal protective equipment p-value = 0.009 with health complaints for farmers users pestisid a. It is expected that farmers will participate more in counseling about the use of personal protective equipment and the use of pesticides carried out by agricultural service officials so that farmers' knowledge is good.
