Abstract: | The initiation of breastfeeding in the first hour after birth reduces 22% of the risk of death for babies aged 0-28 days. Instead delaying initiation increases the risk of death by 2.4 times. The World Health Organization (WHO) said the level of Early Breastfeeding Initiation in the world in 2010 was only 43% of the birth rate. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge about early breastfeeding initiation and the participation of mothers in carrying out IMD in Sigama village, Padang Bolak sub-district, North Padang Lawas district in 2018. This study uses observational analytic research design with cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all normal maternity mothers with healthy babies in Sigama village, Padang Bolak subdistrict, North Padang Lawas regency totaling 43 people. Sampling in the study used a total sampling technique with a total sample of 43 people. Based on the results of this study indicate there is a relationship between knowledge and maternal participation in initiating early breastfeeding (IMD) probability value p = 0.011 (p <0.05). It is expected that midwives can provide guidance to mothers to increase knowledge about early breastfeeding initiation because knowledge of early breastfeeding initiation will improve the implementation of IMD practices. |
