Abstract: Data from the World Health Organization (WHO, 2010), cited by the Ministry of Health (2016), informs that deaths caused by water borne disease reach 3,400,000 people / year. Of all rooted deaths from poor water quality and sanitation, diarrhea is the largest cause of death, 1,400,000 people / year. Data from the Indonesian Health Profile (2016) 30.39% of the total population of Indonesia do not have access to proper fecal disposal and 11.18% of the total population of Indonesia in 2016 still defecate (BABS). This study aims to determine the factors that influence the habit of open defecation in Sababangunan Village, Padang Bolak Subdistrict, North Padang Lawas Regency in 2018. This type of research is quantitative with cross sectional design. The population and sample are all family heads from all houses that have family latrines, which are as many as 89 households. The results showed that there was no relationship between education, work, attitude with total sampling with BABS habits (p> 0.05) there was a relationship between knowledge, attitudes and BABS habits (p <0.05). It is recommended that the community try to build latrines in each house or use the facilities provided by the Regional Government such as public latrines or public lavatories so as not to cause diseases through feces. To each family head to encourage family members to defecate in its place, and forbid neighbors to defecate carelessly near their homes and in any place.
