Abstract

Breast Self Examination (BSE) is one of methods early detection to find breast cancer on early stage which would be more effective if done as early as possible.Basedonaresearch,BSEcandecreasethemortalityratefor25-30%. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship of knowledgewithattitudeonfemale adolescentthebreastselfexamination(BSE) of stateseniorhighschool6Padangsidimpuanin2016. This type of research using descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The study population was eleventh grade science at senior hight school6 Padangsidimpuanas many as219 students.Samplingusing proportional random sampling and obtained as many as 69 respondents. The time and place of study from December 2015 until August 2016 at the senior high school 6 Padangsidimpuan. The research instrument used questionnaires and statistical test used was Spearman's rho at 95% significance level (α = 0.05) where the valueofp<α,whichmeansthealternativehypothesisisaccepted. The results showed that most respondents have sufficient knowledge of 30respondents(30.4%) andnegativeattitudeasmuchas36respondents(52.2%). Based on statistical tests using Spearman's rho obtained p-value of 0.001 (<0.05) and the correlation coefficient (τ) = 0.856. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between knowledge about BSE with the attitude of young women in breastself-examinationandtherelationshipisverystrongbothonthelevel. Expected to health workers can provide counseling so that they can applytheBSEasameansofearlydetectionofbreastcancer.
