Abstract

Smoking behavior of students is increasing despite increasingly strict regulations on cigarette advertising. We can see more and more of cigarette advertisingonoutdooradvertisingsuchasbillboards,banners,postersandsoon. Thepurpose of thisstudy wasto determine the relationship ofoutdooradvertising and smoking behavior of students in SMA Negeri 1 Barumun District of Padang LawasregencyBarumun2016. The design study is an analytic correlation with cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were all male students - male class X and XI of the SMA Negeri 1 Barumun as many as 66 students. Sampling with proportional random sampling. Collecting data by questionnaires that have previously been tested for validityandreliability. The results showed that the respondents stated that outdoor advertising was 71.2%, 89.4% good knowledge, positive attitude 63.6%, and 56.1% who smoke. Fisher's exact test results of outdoor advertising with the respondents' knowledge p-value 0.002 (<0.05). The results of chi square test outdoor advertisingwithrespondents' attitudesp-value of0.001(<0.05). Theresultsofchi square test of outdoor advertising with the actions of the respondent p-value of 0.001 (<0.05). So that there is a relationship between outdoor advertising and smokingbehaviorofstudents. Expected to health workers to educate the dangers of smoking routinely and regularly so that students are aware of the dangers of cigarettes, in this case to improve the health of the student cigarette advertising must be removed so as nottoaffectthebehaviorofstudents.
