dc.description.abstractThe labor pain of uterine contractions during labor increase activity of the sympathetic nervous system, changes the blood pressure, heart rate, respiration. If this is not handled immediately, it will increase the worry, tension, fear and stress. Warm compress therapy is one of the non-pharmacological methods to treat pain. The purpose of this study in general was to determine the effect of giving warm compresses on the pain of the first stage of labor at Rita midwife clinic, simpang Durian village, Linggabayu district, Mandailing Natal regency. This study uses a Quasi Experiment quantitative design. The subjects of this study amounted to 15 mothers giving birth. The results of the research on the level of pain before the warm compress showed that the average pain scale was 8.4 (severe pain) with the lowest scale 5 (moderate pain) and the highest scale 10 (very severe pain); while the level of pain after a warm compress showed that the average pain scale was 4.6 (moderate pain) with the lowest scale 2 (mild pain) and the highest scale 8 (severe pain). The average value before warm compresses is 8.4 and after that is 4.6, with p value (0.000) < (0.05). Therefore, the results of this study can be concluded that there is an effect of giving warm compresses to labor pain in the first stage of labor.en_US
