Abstract: Excessive labor pain will cause anxiety which can trigger the production of the hormone prostaglandin. World Health Organization (2020) as many as 200 million pregnant and childbirth women experience pain during childbirth. Efforts to increase comfort in reducing pain in childbirth can be done by using complementary midwifery care, namely the aroma of lavender. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on the intensity of pain in the first stage of labor in the Midwife Nurhayati Pohan Practice, Sibaganding Village, Batang Angkola District in 2021. The type of research used was quantitative with a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest and posttest approach. The population in this study were all 15 women who gave birth in the first stage at the Midwife Practice Nurhayati Pohan, Sibaganding Village, Batang Angkola District in June 2021, with the sample being all mothers who gave birth in the first stage at the Midwifery Practice Nurhayati Pohan, Sibaganding Village, Batang Angkola District in June. in 2021 as many as 15 people using the accidental sampling method. The analysis used is the Wilcoxon test. The results of the non-parametric statistical test, namely the Wilcoxon test, showed that (p = 0.003), meaning that there was an effect of lavender aromatherapy on the intensity of pain in the first stage of childbirth. Suggestions for mothers to be able to make lavender aromatherapy an alternative in overcoming labor pain reduction.
