Abstract: Research Report. March 2020 Eva Adriandy Siregar The Relationship between Smoking Behavior and the Occurrence of Hypertension in the Elderly in the Work Area of Ulumahuam Health Center, South Labuhanbatu Regency in 2020 ABSTRACT Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure adrenaline through arterial contractions (vasoconstriction) and an increase in heart rate, thus people will experience stress. The increase in blood pressure is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking. nicotine in cigarettes stimulates the release of ketocolamin which causes myocardial irritability. Increased heart rate and causes vasoconstriction (constriction) which in turn increases blood pressure and hormones in blood serum which causes vasoconstriction in blood vessels, which causes an increase in blood pressure. Ulumahuam, South Labuhanbatu Regency. The research method is an analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at Ulumahuam Health Center for 77 people. Data analysis performed was chi square. The results showed an association between smoking behavior and hypertension with a significant value of p = 0.003 <0.05. The results of this study recommend that health centers be able to establish health programs for the elderly, especially programs that involve the elderly in health care about hypertension.
