One of the symptoms of pneumonia is an increase in respiratory rate caused by inflammation of fluid-filled alveoli that makes the body difficult to obtain oxygen. One of nursing intervention is pursed lips breathing exercise. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pursed lips breathing exercise to the respiratory rate change of pneumonia patients. The research method used quasi-experiment by pursed lips breathing exercise. The study was conducted at General hospital of Paadangsidimpuan City on 20 respondents, namely 10 respondents in the intervention group and 10 respondents in the control group. The data analysis used t-test. The results showed a significant influence to the respiratory rate change on intervention group after pursed lips breathing exercise to be one of the nursing intervention of Pneumonia Patients.
