Abstract Background: Hypertension is an increase in systolic blood pressure above 140 mmHg and an increase in diastolic blood pressure above 90 mmHg. Lifestyle determines the survival of hypertension sufferers, non-compliance with treatment or a healthy lifestyle can worsen the signs and symptoms of hypertension. The family is one of the supporting factors, determining whether a person with hypertension can live a healthy life. Purpose: To determine the relationship between family support and adherence to a healthy lifestyle in patients with hypertension. Method: Cross sectional correlational descriptive research was conducted on patients with hypertension in the Palembang Social Health Center working area with 57 respondents. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The independent variable is family support, while the dependent variable is compliance to a healthy lifestyle. The instrument used was a questionnaire and data analysis used univariate and bivariate with the Kendall Tau-b test. Results: Respondents who received sufficient family support had 11 (61.1%) compliance to a healthy lifestyle category, while 20 (66.7%) had sufficient family support with healthy lifestyle compliance in the less category, and respondents who were unsupported by their families had a non-compliance with a healthy lifestyle of 6 (66.7%). Obtained p-value 0.001 (<0.05) with a close relationship of 0.430 and a positive direction. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family support and compliance to a healthy lifestyle. The better the support provided, the more compliance of patients with hypertension will be to a healthy lifestyle and vice versa. Suggestion: The importance of increasing family support in efforts to maintain compliance to a healthy lifestyle in patients with hypertension.
