Abstract: Abstract Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by blood sugar levels that exceed normal limits and if not treated quickly and appropriately can cause complications in the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and blood vessels. The prevalence and number of DM sufferers have increased rapidly over the past few years, making this disease one of the four priority non-communicable diseases (NCDs). One of the behavioral theories widely used in cases of DM sufferers is the Health Belief Model (HBM), this theory is able to analyze a person's perception of their illness and the reasons why someone wants or does not want to make changes to their behavior. Purpose: To determine the relationship between the health belief model and medication adherence in DM patients. Method: Descriptive correlational quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted at the Baki Health Center in August 2023-February 2024. Sampling using simple random sampling of 87 respondents. The independent variable in this study is the health belief model (HBM), while the dependent variable is medication adherence. The instruments used were the Health Belief Model (HBM) questionnaire and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) questionnaire. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis of the Spearman rank test. Results: Poor health belief model causes poor medication adherence 38 (73%). While a good health belief model can increase good medication adherence 20 (58.8%). The results of statistical tests show that this correlation is significant with a p value of 0.01, while the correlation coefficient between the two variables is 0.864. This indicates a strong relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the health belief model and medication adherence in DM patients. The higher the Health Belief Model, the higher the DM patient's compliance in taking medication. Keywords: Adherences; Diabetes Mellitus (DM); Health Belief Model.
