Abstract: Abstract Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. Type 2 DM occurs due to impaired insulin secretion that causes insulin resistance, occurs in 90-95% of diabetes cases and is often found in obese patients. Providing long-term, supervised community-based interventions can improve physical fitness and physical activity in people with DM. Purpose: To review and evaluate the benefits of providing a community-based exercise program to reduce HbA1c levels in people with DM. Method: Scoping review using PRISMA diagram. Research data collection through Google Scholar, PubMed, and Sciencedirect databases published in 2013-2023. Results: There was a decrease in HbA1c levels and an increase in fitness in DM patients who underwent a community-based exercise program of aerobic exercise type with endurance in the heart rate range associated with VO2 max 65% - 85% and a moderate to strong intensity range. Conclusion: Community-based exercise programs are indicated to reduce HbA1c levels in DM patients. Suggestion: This literature review is expected to be a reference in providing types of community-based exercise in the form of aerobic exercise programs or a combination of community-based aerobic and strengthening exercise programs carried out for a duration of 150 minutes in one week, with moderate to high intensity adjusted to the conditions of DM participants.
