Abstract: | Abstract Background: Basic life support (BLS) for ordinary people is an urgent need considering the complexity of health challenges and accidents that can occur in everyday life. Cardiac arrest in public places is one of the medical emergencies that is often encountered by the public. At that time, the community needs to help the victim until capable medical assistance arrives. The community needs to be equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide assistance to victims of cardiac arrest. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of BLS methods for ordinary people. Method: Systematic literature review (SLR) of three databases PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar. Identified 668 articles which were then extracted to obtain 10 articles that were relevant and usable. This review of findings describes methods of understanding and training in the management of cardiac arrest in the lay public. Results: Based on ten articles, the results showed that the general public needs explanations, descriptions, views and procedures that are easy to understand and easy to remember. Regarding the article that the author researched, he wrote that methods that can be used to conduct training for lay people include writing in the form of management of cardiac arrest management, lectures given by instructors to training participants, providing and showing videos of cardiac arrest management, transmitting directly in front of participants regarding management of cardiac arrest, discussions by instructors and participants regarding management of cardiac arrest, and providing explanations via teaching slides regarding management of cardiac arrest. Conclusion: Providing simulations, visualization via video, providing narratives that are easy to understand, and doing practice together are more effective methods in conducting BLS training for lay people.
