Abstract Background: In the third trimester pregnant women must prepare for all labor needs, including labor pain management that will be applied during the labor process. Pregnant women's knowledge of labor pain management is very important because it will help mothers deal with pain during labor, so that the labor process can run smoothly and reduce maternal morbidity. Labor pain is a physiological condition that occurs in mothers giving birth. Pain in the first stage of labor occurs due to involuntary contractions of the uterine muscles. Purpose: To determine the relationship between characteristics and knowledge of third trimester pregnant women regarding labor pain management using breath exercise and deep back massage techniques. Method: Descriptive analytical research using quantitative methods with a cross sectional design approach. This research was carried out at the Independent Midwife Practice N South Tangerang in April-June 2023. The inclusion criteria in this study were pregnant women who were willing to be respondents, were able to communicate well, and had received information about labor pain management. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square statistical test with a confidence level of 95% with a p-value (<0.05). Results: In the education variable, those with good knowledge, namely mothers with higher education, numbered 21 (87.5%). The results of the chi-square statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.05), so there is a significant relationship between education and the respondent's knowledge. Meanwhile, other independent variables show a p-value >0.05 so there is no significant relationship. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between education and knowledge with a value of p=0.002 and there is no significant relationship between age, occupation, gravida, and source of information on the knowledge of pregnant women in the third trimester. Suggestion: This research is expected to increase public knowledge about maternal and child health, especially in the management of labor pain. Health workers, especially midwives, can provide information about labor pain management techniques and can also apply them. It is hoped that institutions can improve the quality of education and can be used as reference material in libraries, especially regarding labor pain management techniques.
