Abstract: | Abstract Background: Head elevation treatment is an action performed on a patient with the aim of opening the airway. This position is part of emergency handling maneuvers in life-threatening situations, especially in conditions where the patient experiences difficulty breathing or stops breathing. The head elevation position helps facilitate air measurements by positioning the patient's head and neck. By lifting your chin and closing your head back, air flow can more easily enter the airways. Head elevation or sniffing position also helps prevent aspiration, namely the entry of objects or fluids into the airways by lifting the chin, the risk of aspiration can be minimized. Treatment of the head elevation position is a critical first step in treating medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, shock or other emergency conditions. This helps ensure adequate oxygen supply to the lungs. Purpose: To assess whether the head elevation position is the appropriate treatment to open the victim's airway. Method: Articles resulting from a systematic literature review (SLR) which is a critical analysis of selected articles using two article databases, namely PubMed and Google Scholar and presenting data findings originating from various other research. Results: The articles reviewed by the authors highlight the importance of head elevation in opening the airway and benefiting human respiratory health. In the ten articles reviewed, a strong context emerged that head elevation, or positioning the head slightly higher than the body, can increase airflow to the lungs Conclusion: The application of the sniffing position in various medical contexts shows its benefits not only in the respiratory aspect, but also in the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects which are very important for providing quality care for patients. Keywords: Airway Clearance; Head Elevation Position; Intervention. |
